Brain Enhancement

Brain Enhancement – Wouldn’t it be nice if life was like the movies? It would be great if we’d be able to learn new things just by downloading them into our brains. Just imagine—if you want to learn how to drive you just need to get the software needed to learn the skill, install it to your brain and then, boom! You now know how to drive! But of course, life doesn’t work that way, you need to study in order to learn things and you need to practice in order to master them.

To some people, learning new things and retaining information is a difficulty. It is a common belief that cognitive skills are inborn and will remain unchanging until old age.   This belief has already been proven false. Brain enhancement is indeed possible, even in old age.

Anybody can do brain enhancement activities—kids, students who need to enhance their logic skills, professionals who need to develop their decision-making skills, or even elderly who just want to improve their memory.

Brain Enhancement – How to?

The first thing you need to remember if you want to improve your cognitive skills is to get adequate sleep and regular exercise. The brain is a part of our body, and just like all the other parts, the brain needs sleep and exercise in order to work properly.

Exercise, for one, improves blood flow to the brain, thus increasing its oxygen supply. It is also a known fact that people who exercise regularly are in less risk of acquiring diseases which predispose to memory loss such as stroke and diabetes.

Sleep, meanwhile, is needed for the brain to fully function. It is also in sleep where memory consolidation takes place—meaning that what you’ve learned during the day is reinforced by sleeping.

Eat healthy foods. This is a given since we all know that food is needed to fuel the brain. Increase your intake of omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids are known to help in brain enhancement. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables also helps since these foods are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants are known to protect your brain from substances which causes brain damage. Avoid foods high in saturated fats. Saturated fats have been found to increase the risk of developing dementia. They are also known to decrease the ability of an individual to focus and concentrate.

Stress is a no-no. Stress damages every part of our body especially our brain. Chronic stress can lead to death of brain cells.  It can also lead to damages in the hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for memory. That is the reason why people who are often in stressful situations have a hard time retaining and recalling information.

Perform mental exercises. Brain training needs constant practice in order to be successful. Do something mentally-challenging and new. Don’t stick to routines. This way you’re brain will be able to form new pathways. Remember that the more you use your brain, the more your cognitive skills will improve.

Brain enhancement is not an easy and quick task. It takes effort and dedication. Your brain, just like any other part of your body, needs to be constantly trained and worked out in order to be fit. But no matter how hard you find it, you’ll see that Brain Enhancement will be worth the effort and time.
